Reconstruction of the DC electric drive of the Gigant-Glubokaya mine

A comprehensive turnkey project for the reconstruction of the DC electric drive of the cage lifting installation of the Gigant-Glubokaya mine, PJSC Central Mining and Processing Plant, Kriviy Rig was successfully implemented

Customer: LLC ‘YASNO ENERGY EFFICIENCY’. Start of work – January 2023, commissioning – August 2023.

The electric drive of the cage lifting installation was introduced in the 70s using the “Synchronous motor – DC generator – DC motor” system with an analogue control system based on a magnetic amplifier.
Rated parameters of the lifting motor: power 1900 kW, armature current 2450 A, armature voltage 900 V.

Over a long period of operation, the electromechanical equipment of the system, namely the synchronous motor and DC generator, which are in continuous operation, had worn out significantly and could not guarantee reliable operation of the installation. Given the lack of reserve, failure of any piece of electromechanical equipment would mean stopping the entire lift.
The issue of energy saving was also important, because even during the non-operating period of the installation, the active energy of the idling synchronous motor is consumed. Energy consumption also requires auxiliary devices – excitation of a synchronous motor, cooling fans, oil station, etc. Due to capacity, this results in significant costs in the long run.

The above problems were successfully solved as part of the implementation of the electric drive reconstruction project with the introduction of the “Thyristor Converter – Motor” system.
The reconstruction included the introduction of a complete thyristor converter KTE5-AC-2.5k/900 as the main power source for the armature of the lifting motor. The ‘Generator-Engine’ system was stopped and put into cold reserve.
In combination with a converter for powering the armature circuit, a converter for powering the field winding KTE5-BC-160/230 was introduced.

The set of equipment introduced within the project included:

  • high-voltage cell type KCO-305 for inputting 6 kV voltage to the transformer;
  • power converter transformer;
  • complete thyristor converter for armature power supply;
  • complete thyristor converter for powering the excitation winding;
  • equipment for switching power and operational circuits between the main and backup systems.

The following work was completed as part of the project:

  • development of a working draft, conducting an examination;
  • development, production and supply of a set of equipment;
  • construction of a foundation for a transformer, metal structures, fences, etc.;
  • installation of equipment, laying of cables and busbars, electrical installation;
  • commissioning works.

Main advantages of the new system:

  • reduction in electrical energy consumption;
  • reducing the cost of time and resources for maintenance;
  • improved control characteristics due to a modern digital control system.
  • improving working conditions by reducing noise and excessive heat generation in the room.
