DC furnace control panel

Furnace control panel is an integral part of electrical equipment set for DC arc furnaces.
Furnace control panel (hereinafter FCP) is designed for smelting process control and contains an electrode positioning control drive for maintaining a given arc voltage.

General technical characteristics

FCP allows to perform the following functions:

  • regulation of:
    – arc voltage;
    – arc current;
    – arc autoignition;
    – autoignition upon arc break;
  • manual, automatic and computerized (by Automated Process Control System) control of:
    – arc current;
    – arc voltage;
    – electrode positioning;
  • electrode positioning by:
    – unadjustable AC drive;
    – adjustable AC drive;
    – adjustable dc drive;
  • high-voltage switch control;
  • no-load tap changing;
  • indication of current parameters.

It is possible to implement FCP with any technical characteristics in accordance with the Terms of Reference agreed with the Customer.

Control system

All tasks of the control system are executed by using software and hardware.
The output signals of CS are:

  • settings up speed and direction of rotation for the electrode positioning drive;
  • high voltage switch control commands;
  • no-load tap changing commands for transformer;
  • indication of operating modes;
  • text messages on the console terminal with regard to the operating modes and causes of emergency shutdowns;
  • communication with Automated Process Control System via network interface (Profibus DP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP (Ethernet), CAN, etc.)

Flexible adjustment structure, open for interaction from an external automation system/controller through network interfaces.

Protection system

FCP provides for the following types of protection:

  • furnace position;
  • transformer no-load tap changing;
  • technological protections;
  • against power supply failure in control system.
